Philadelphia farmhouse
suffers minor fire damage
PHILADELPHIA — A two-story farmhouse at 32573 Route 11 suffered minor fire damage Monday morning after a chimney malfunctioned, igniting the wall around it.
The property's owners, Harry A. and Alice L. Moore, were home at the time of the fire, which was reported shortly before 2 a.m., and were not injured. Damage to the house was limited to an area around the wood stove in the kitchen, Jefferson County fire investigator Timothy M. Mulvaney said.
"They'll need to make some repairs to the kitchen and the wall behind it," he said. "But they do have another heat source in the house."
The residents were allowed to spend the night in the house, which is insured, he said.
Responding to the scene were firefighters from Evans Mills, Philadelphia, Antwerp and Theresa and medics from Philadelphia and Antwerp. No injuries were reported at the scene.
Man accused of break-in
at home as residents slept
PORT LEYDEN — A Port Leyden man was jailed early Monday on charges that he broke into a town of Leyden home while the residents were sleeping and stole several items.
Lewis County sheriff's deputies charged Brian A. Nagy, 19, of 3411 Pearl St., with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny. He was arraigned in Leyden Town Court and sent to Lewis County jail, Lowville, on $10,000 bail.
Deputies said they responded at 2:58 a.m. to the report of an unwanted man at 6954 Kelpytown Road, and Mr. Nagy fled on foot when they arrived. He was apprehended shortly after with the assistance of state police, deputies said.
Several unspecified items from the residence were found in Mr. Nagy's jacket pockets, deputies said.
Man accused of slamming
his wife's fingers in door
ALEXANDRIA BAY — Jefferson County sheriff's deputies here have arrested a man they said intentionally slammed his wife's fingers in a door on Christmas eve.
Talfourd T. Wynne II, 26, of 12 Washington St., was charged with third-degree assault after his wife, Meggin B., needed treatment at River Hospital for her injuries. Deputies said the two were arguing about 8 p.m. in their home when he shoved her and slammed her hand in the door. Deputies arrested him at the residence later that day.
He was arraigned in Antwerp Town Court and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, on $500 bail.
Norwood woman injured
when vehicle overturns
NORWOOD — Courtney C. Chudzinski, 21, Norwood, was treated at a hospital after an accident about 9:50 p.m. Sunday on County Route 38.
According to state police, she was driving too fast for the road conditions; the vehicle left the road and overturned in a ditch.
Complaining of back pain, she was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where she was treated and released. She was charged with not using reasonable speed, police said.
Man accused of entering
woman's city apartment
Watertown police charged Richard R. Wicks, 20, of 9492 Route 812, Croghan, with second-degree trespass after he allegedly entered a woman's High Street apartment.
Mr. Wicks entered the apartment of Miranda Busby, 140 High St., Apt. 5, on Wednesday, police said. He turned himself over to police at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and was issued a ticket to return to City Court.
Man, woman face charges
after city police halt car
A Watertown couple both face charges of second-degree criminal contempt and other counts following a traffic stop on the 100 block of Mechanic Street at 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Naja S. Beamus, 29, of 311 W. Main St., and Olie L. Wright III, 24, of 206 Franklin St., Apt. 508, allegedly were found in a car together despite the Family Court order of protection Mrs. Beamus filed to keep him from her and their 2-year-old child.
Watertown police additionally charged her with driving with a suspended registration; he was charged with riding without a seat belt. Both where held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment before a city judge.
Seven teenagers charged
with underage drinking
Watertown police cited seven teenagers with unlawful possession of alcohol early Sunday after breaking up a party at 430 Flower Ave. E. Police said they were called to the apartment because of a reported domestic incident.

Antwerp man accused
of violating court order
Jefferson County sheriff's deputies allege that Jerry W. Jones, 44, of 33779 Carpenter Road, Antwerp, violated a protection order by calling and threatening Linda M. Jones at 2:37 a.m. Thursday at her Theresa home.
He was arrested later that day at his residence and charged with first-degree criminal contempt.
He was issued an appearance ticket.
Ogdensburg man charged
with third-degree assault
OGDENSBURG — Thomas M. Kelso, 20, of 712 Franklin St., was charged Saturday evening with third-degree assault, state police said.
Troopers allege Mr. Kelso punched another man in the face in the town of Oswegatchie Saturday afternoon, splitting his lip and knocking out one of his teeth. State police declined to identify the man. Mr. Kelso was released on an appearance ticket.
Ogdensburg teen charged
over threats made online
FOWLER — An Ogdensburg teen was charged Saturday for allegedly threatening another teen over the Internet.
State police said Tonya E. Remi, 16, of 729 Caroline St., threatened to beat up an unidentified girl under the age of 16. Miss Remi was charged with second-degree harassment, troopers said.
Woman arrested at job
on theft, pot charges
EDWARDS — A Hermon woman was arrested by state police and charged with petit larceny and possession of marijuana Sunday after she allegedly stole $245 from her employer.
Lisa E. Jones, 46, of 282 Pyrites-Russell Road, allegedly took the money while working as a cashier at Baker's Groceries, 1749 Route 58.
Troopers arrested her in the grocery store parking lot, where they allegedly found marijuana in her purse.
She was arraigned in Edwards Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County Jail, Canton, on $500 bail.
Hounsfield woman hurt
when snowmobile flips
MONTAGUE — A town of Hounsfield woman was injured in a snowmobile crash at 11:25 a.m. Saturday on Salmon River Road in the town of Montague.
Lewis County sheriff's deputies said Paula E. Barr, 38, of 18787 Jericho Road, was driving north when she attempted to slow down and the back of her sled slid on the ice, causing it to flip over.
She was taken by private vehicle to the hospital for treatment, but deputies didn't specify which facility or the extent of the injuries.
Teen accused of trying
to enter pickup in city
A Massena teenager was charged with third-degree unlawful use of a vehicle and possession of marijuana after cops found him tugging on the door handle of another man's pickup truck.
Shane N. Robinson, 19, of 146 Center St., Apt. 9, was seen by Watertown police shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday near 700 State St. pulling on the handle of a truck owned by Michael S. Casey, 330 Flower Ave. E., in an attempt to enter the vehicle.
A small amount of marijuana was found in his pocket, police said.
He was held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment in City Court.
Man accused of throwing
girlfriend down the stairs
NORWOOD — A man was arrested after allegedly throwing his girlfriend down a flight of stairs.
Alexander J. White, 22, of 44 South Main St., Apt. 2, was charged by state police at 8:45 a.m. Sunday in his home with third-degree assault.
According to police, Mr. White repeatedly punched his girlfriend, Rachael A. Clark, 21, same address, in the face before throwing her down a flight of stairs in their home. Police said alcohol was involved.
Mr. White was arraigned in Town Court and was taken to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $1,500 bail or $2,500 bond.
Former inmate awaiting
extradition to Puerto Rico
GOUVERNEUR — A former state inmate is being held for extradition proceedings to Puerto Rico.
St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies arrested Wilson Toro, 43, Allentown, Pa., at 8:15 a.m. Monday outside the Gouverneur Correctional Facility.
He was arrested on charges of being a fugitive from justice in Puerto Rico, where he is wanted for failing to appear on a burglary charge, deputies said.
He was arraigned in Town Court and is being held without bail at St. Lawrence County jail, Canton.
Police: woman used knife
to threaten her neighbors
MASSENA — State police arrested a woman who allegedly threatened her neighbors with a knife.
Stacey L. Oakes, 25, of 14 County Route 42A, Lot 5, was charged with second-degree menacing with a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use at 7:33 p.m. Sunday at the state police barracks.
According to police, Mrs. Oakes threatened a neighbor with a large bi-fold knife earlier in the day outside her home.
She is due to appear in Town Court.
Contempt charge lodged
against Parishville man
PARISHVILLE — Bryan H. Kirk, 31, of 3564 George St., was charged by state police with criminal contempt at 4:21 p.m. Sunday at his home.
Police said Mr. Kirk violated a court order by contacting Daniel Rouselle, 20.
