Coon carries Storm to tournament title

SOLVAY — Devin Coon recorded a hat trick and dished out two assists as the Ontario Bay hockey team won the championship game of the Kings of the Coliseum Tournament with a 7-1 victory over Westmoreland on Tuesday.

Coon was named as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Hunter VanHorn, Cal Longley, Eddie Tagliareni and Justin Geddings were named to the all-tournament team for Ontario Bay (6-3).

Alex Foster scored the only goal for Westmoreland (3-6-1) and was its lone representative on the all-tournament squad.

THOUSAND ISLANDS 2

Anthony Bobkoskie registered a goal and an assist to lift the Purple Ghosts to a first-round win the Alexandria Christmas Tournament. The game also counted in the Northern Athletic Conference Division II standings.

Drew Kellogg and Vinnie Amelio each scored for the Vikings (2-5 overall, 1-4 league), and the teams played a scoreless second period, tied 2-2.

Gannon Beach provided the game-winner in the third period for Alexandria (4-2, 2-2), which plays at 3 p.m. today against Plattsburgh in the championship game.

Devyn Montante made 28 saves for the Vikings, who face St. Lawrence Central at 12:30 p.m. in the consolation game.

PLATTSBURGH 5, ST. LAWRENCE 2

Plattsburgh buried four third-period goals to win a first-round game in the Alexandria Christmas tournament.

Kyle Strader and Dylan Patterson each scored for St. Lawrence (5-2).

THOUSAND ISLANDS 43,

SACKETS HARBOR 31

Bit Hall scored 14 points for the Vikings during a nonleague victory at Jefferson Community College.

Krisitn McGraw contributed 10 points and seven rebounds for unbeaten Thousand Islands (7-0), which beat the Patriots for the second time this season.

Olivia Townsend led Sackets Harbor (7-3) with 10 points.

OUR LADY OF MERCY 73, IHC 49

Mary Kate Tierney's 18 points helped the Monarchs to a convincing victory in the first round of the Bishop Grimes Tournament.

Tierney was one of four players to score in double figures for Our Lady of Mercy (7-0), which is ranked No. 3 in the latest Class AA polls.

Adriana Spicer led the Cavaliers (4-1) with 16 points. They'll play either Utica Notre Dame or Bishop Grimes in the consolation game at 6:15 p.m. today.

COPENHAGEN 56, SOUTH LEWIS 34

Morgan Kiernan racked up 23 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists for the Golden Knights, who beat the Falcons (1-6) during the Lewis County Tournament at Copenhagen.

Taylor Church finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds for Copenhagen (5-2).

LOWVILLE 45, BEAVER RIVER 35

Chelsea Finn generated 16 points to help guide the Red Raiders to league crossover victory at the Lewis County Tournament in Copenhagen.

Taylor Haenlin contributed 14 points for Lowville (2-5, 1-4).

Ashley Widrick dropped in 12 points for the Beavers (4-3).

VOLLEYBALL

BEEKMANTOWN VICTORIOUS AT WHS

Beekmantown defeated Marcellus in the Gold Division finals and went 6-0 on the day to secure the top finish at the Watertown Christmas Clash.

In the Silver Division, Fulton beat Plattsburgh in the finals.

Watertown, which finished 2-4 in pool play, was eliminated during the Bronze Division finals with a 2-0 loss to Mexico. Delyn Dois was named to the all-tournament team for the Cyclones.

Emily Pfeil was selected to the all-tournament team for South Jefferson, which finished 3-3. Jessica Dobson-Tufo earned all-tournament honors for Carthage, which was 0-6.

THOUSAND ISLANDS 3,

GENERAL BROWN 1

Rachel Parker tallied 10 aces, nine assists, four kills and five digs to lead the Vikings to a 21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15 nonleague win over the Lions (2-6) at Dexter.

Siarra Sherako added 14 kills and five aces for Thousand Islands (6-2).

WRESTLING

HANSON, GIBBONS WIN IN FINALS

Sean Hanson (125 pounds) and Patrick Gibbons (285) each recorded a pinfall victory in the finals of the Kenneth Haines Memorial Wrestling Tournament at SUNY Oswego.

Hanson led South Jefferson (7-0) to a fourth-place finish overall, while Gibbons's 25-second pin lifted Carthage (4-4) to 11th place. APW (1-1), which finished 14th, was the only other participant to represent the Frontier League.

Fulton captured the team title with a score of 315, behind the performance of most outstanding wrestler D.J. Ingham (215).
