A teenage hunter was injured Sunday morning in the town of Pamelia when his shotgun discharged, shooting him in the chest, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Kenneth D. Clark, 17, Carthage, was hunting from an area of thick underbrush at 9:57 a.m. in the Perch River Wildlife Management Area when the accident occurred, police said. He was pulled from the brush and taken to Samaritan Medical Center. The hospital declined to comment on his condition Sunday night.

Brownville, Dexter and Evans Mills emergency responders, the Brownville Highway Department and Brownville/Glen Park and state environmental conservation police assisted deputies at the scene.

State environmental conservation police continue to investigate the incident.
