Five players reach first-team mention

Five north country football players have earned first-team all-state status as chosen by the New York State Sportswriters' Association.

Section 3 Class C champion General Brown placed senior linebacker Jared Flath and senior offensive lineman Jacob Powell on the Class C all-state first team. Senior defensive lineman Kyle Rust made the second team in Class C.

Ogdensburg Free Academy senior offensive lineman Cam Allison also was chosen for the first team in Class C, while Blue Devils' senior wide receiver Gene Bouyer made the second team and junior quarterback Jared Morrow is on the third team.

In Class B, South Jefferson junior running back A. J. Chartrand was a first-team selection.

In Class D, Beaver River junior wide receiver Evan Buckingham made the first team. Immaculate Heart Central placed two players on the second-team defense, senior lineman Matt Prior and senior safety Tom Burgess.

HOCKEY

CBA 2, ONTARIO BAY 1

The Brothers netted a pair of third-period goals to grab a Section 3 Division II West victory at Pulaski.

Tyler Decker opened the scoring with a goal five minutes into the second quarter for Ontario Bay (6-5, 2-4).

Josh Rathburn and Nick Papayanakos scored for CBA (7-4-1, 6-2).

Justin Geddings turned away 24 shots for the Storm.

MASSENA 12, MALONE 0

Derek Hammell and Colin Baines each generated two goals to lead a well-balanced Raider effort in a Northern Athletic Conference interdivision game in Massena.

David Henrie added a goal and three assists, while John Paul Prashaw provided a goal and two assists.

NORTHWOOD 3, ST. LAWRENCE 1

Mike Trusca, Branden Casillas, and Sam Akins all scored for Northwood as Matt Faye had eight saves at Brasher Falls.

Brady Helmer scored from Zach Baldwin and Brett Mahoney for the Larries (7-3). Jordan Gary had 18 saves in net.

BISHOP KEARNEY 4,

THOUSANDS ISLANDS 3

Drew Parisian scord twice and posted an assist in Thousand Islands' nonleague loss in Clayton. Bobby Hayman also scored for Thousand Islands (3-8).

BELLOWS FA 4, POTSDAM 2

Nick Boyce scored twice, including the game winner at 8:04 of the third period, to lift Bellows Free Academy in a nonleague game in Potsdam. Drew Howrigan and Connor Roberts also scored for the winners, who received 20 saves from Tyler Pearl.

Dakota Ford scored and had an assist for Potsdam (6-4-1).

WRESTLING

SPARTANS SWEEP OSWEGO DUALS

South Jefferson (13-0) won all five of its matches to finish first at the Oswego Duals.

Sandy Creek (18-4) also represented the Frontier League, finishing fourth with a 2-3 record.

Jon Crast recorded a pin in 44 seconds as the Spartans won the only meeting between the two schools 50-20.

WARRIORS EARN TITLE AT ILION

Peyton Amato, Alex Tibbles and Matt Gray each captured individual titles to lead Indian River to the team title of the Leo J. Sammon Tournament at Ilion.

The Warriors tallied 220.5 points to place higher than the other 10 teams. Lowville (73.5) was ninth and Copenhagen (71) finished 10th.

Amato (140) and Tibbles (285) pinned opponents, while Gray (135) won by forfeit in the finals.

Dylan Eddy of Copenhagen recorded a final-round pin to claim the 215-pound championship.

IHC'S KOELMEL UNBEATEN

Immaculate Heart Central sophomore Bill Koelmel finished 8-0 Friday and Saturday at the Central Square Duals, helping the Cavaliers go 5-3 for a fourth-place showing.

Gregg Abbass and Bailey Upton each went 7-1, and earned MOW honors for IHC (9-8). Aaron West was also 7-1.

Clifton-Fine (4-6), APW (2-14), and Watertown (0-11) placed sixth, eighth and ninth, respectively.

VOLLEYBALL

LOWVILLE 3, SOUTH LEWIS 0

Lahni Duffer tallied 12 points, 11 assists and three kills for the Red Raiders during a 25-11, 25-11, 25-23 Frontier League interdivision match at Lowville.

Mindy Lucas chipped in with 12 digs, six points and four kills, while Katie O'Brien finished with 10 assists and six points for Lowville (6-3).

Heather McManus had six kills for South Lewis (4-6, 4-5). Danielle Brown contributed 10 assists.

BOYS SWIMMING

CARTHAGE 96, INDIAN RIVER 90

Sean Stegemoller and Bill Pogue captured two events apiece to lead the Comets (4-2) to the Frontier League victory at Philadelphia.

Stegemoller claimed the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Pogue took the 200 individual medley and 100 free.

For the Warriors, Jordan Hunneyman won the 50 free and 100 breaststroke and contributed to the first-place 200 medley and 200 free relays.

INDOOR TRACK

HUSKIES SWEEP NAC MEET

Malone won the boys and girls event Friday at the Northern Athletic Conference meet at St. Lawrence University.

The Huskies boys finished with 1111/2 points while South Jefferson was second with 68. Malone took first place in the girls competition with 86 points to Canton's 72.

Justin Marlow won the 55 hurdles for the Malone boys and Kylie Disotelle won the same event for the Malone girls.

Norwood-Norfolk's Jon Eng won the boys 1,000 and 1,600 and Canton's Aimee Beaudette took the girls 1,000 and 1,500.

Indian River had a pair of multiple-event winners. Andre Green won the boys long jump and triple jump and Latressa Graham won the triple jump and the 55.
