Massena liquor store robbed at knifepoint

MASSENA — Village police are investigating the armed robbery of an East Orvis Street liquor store Thursday evening.

A white male between the ages of 25 and 30 entered Shirley's Discount Liquors, 68 E. Orvis St., shortly before 7 p.m. displaying a knife and demanding money, police said. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man was dressed in a black Carhartt jacket, black pants and a black face mask, possibly made of fleece. He is believed to be about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a stocky build.

Police said one employee was working in the store at the time of the incident . No injuries were reported.

Massena Village Police Chief Timmy J. Currier said his department was tracking down a couple of leads as of late Thursday.

"We've called in our investigators, including the K-9 team," he said. "The K-9 unit did hit on a track which has provided us with some leads. We have a couple leads we're following up on right now."

Mr. Currier said the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call village police at 769-3577.
