LISBON — Mike McDonell had a steal, an assist and two points in the final two minutes to help Lisbon defeat Heuvelton, 44-39, in the first round of the James Darcy Memorial boys basketball tournament Monday.
McDonell finished with 12 points for the Golden Knights (10-4 overall, 9-2 NAC West Division).
Andrew Ross recorded 14 points for the Bulldogs (8-6, 5-5).

Jordan Kendall's 22 points and five steals led the Yellow Jackets past the Golden Bears in the first round of the James Darcy Memorial Tournament in Lisbon.

Tasha Roes registered 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Beavers pulled away from the Knights in the second half of a crossover game at Beaver Falls.
Ashley Widrick added six assists to her nine-point performance for Beaver River (7-6, 8-6).
Sarah Jolliff contributed eight points, while Danielle Eisel netted nine for Copenhagen (9-4, 7-3).

Emily LaPaige generated 17 points as the Panthers remained unbeaten in a nonleague win over the Sandstoners in Potsdam.

Evan Drummater stopped 24 shots in net to keep the Sandstoners in front of the Larries in a nonleague game in Brasher Falls.
Shane McHenry, Seth Adams, Greg Burkum, Mike Ellis and Ryan Merriman all scored for Potsdam (8-7-1).
St. Lawrence fell to 10-6 overall.

Danielle Bartlett had 15 kills and eight blocks as the Spartans defeated the Tigers, 20-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, in a nonleague game in Mexico.
Emily Pfeil had 18 assists and three aces, while Samantha Snyder recorded 13 kills and five blocks for South Jefferson (12-3).
CHEERLEADING
SECTION 3 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Indian River and Copenhagen highlighted Watertown-area schools competing at the Section 3 winter cheerleading championships on Saturday.
The Warriors won the Class A division, and Atashae Gore and Madison Wilcox each picked up All-Star selections.
Copenhagen won the Class D division. Sarah Woodruff was the only All-Star named for the Knights.
South Jefferson was the spirit award from the Class A, AA, and B divisions.
Casey Simons, Ayana Brown and Lizzie Whitmarsh earned All-Star accolades from Watertown.
