POTSDAM — SUNY Potsdam has logged its highest enrollment in five years for this spring, with 4,000 students taking courses this semester.
The college has also seen a 13 percent spike in applications for next fall — the highest among all of SUNY's comprehensive colleges — since it became the first state university not to require test scores for most applications.
The test-optional policy has been "a breath of fresh air for students and families," Thomas W. Nesbitt, director of admissions, said in a statement.
SUNY Potsdam is the first institution in the SUNY system not to require SAT or ACT scores. It instead concentrates more on high school grades and accomplishments, essays and recommendations.
"I am thrilled that more and more students throughout the state are discovering the exceptional opportunities available at SUNY Potsdam," President John F. Schwaller said in a statement.
