NORWOOD — Mrs. Felma M. Herne, age 85, of Norwood, NY passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at her residence while under the care of her family and Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Church in Norwood, NY with Msgr. Harry Snow celebrant. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9. Burial will take place in the spring at the Calvary Cemetery in Norwood, NY. Felma is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Lawrence "Luke" Herne, a son Ronald Herne of Canton, daughter Pamelia McDonald of Hewittville, sister Pauline Tyndal of Madrid, half sister Joyce Avery of Westville, NY, four grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by brother Homer Ashley, sisters Alberta Norton and Marjorie Cota, half brothers Richard LaValley and Lawrence Ashley and half sister Irene Wells.

Felma M. Herne was born on December 6, 1924 in Potsdam, NY to Eugene Ashley and Agnes Wilmart. She attended Potsdam schools. On January 9, 1950 she was married to Lawrence Herne with Rev. Richards at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam, NY. She worked at the Oval Wood Dish for a few years and then she was a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Andrew's Church and of the Senior Citizens group in Akwasasne. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Racquette River Fire Dept., the Potsdam VFW and the Norwood American Legion.
