HARRISVILLE — Raymond G. Genter, 63, of 13239 Bryant Bridge Rd., Harrisville and formerly of Black River, died February 1, 2010 at his home where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Lewis County.
Born December 19, 1946 in Watertown, son of the late Robert E. and Beverly Balcom Genter, he graduated from Carthage Central High School in 1965.
He entered the Navy on May 3, 1966 and served aboard the USS WASP aircraft carrier. He was honorably discharged January 30, 1970.
Mr. Genter returned to Watertown and worked for Sicard Industries, as a crane operator, for two years, for Niagara Mohawk, as a lineman, for four years, in the early 70s he worked at Fort Drum, as a lineman, and for the last ten years as a scheduler. He retired in 2006.
He married Karen Taylor, of Black River, August of 1967, the marriage ended in divorce in 1991.
He married Sylvia Hayward Hodge, of Watertown, on February 14, 2003 in Harrisville.
Mr. Genter was a member of the Black River American Legion, Exempt Member of the Black River Fire Department, avid member of the East Branch Hunting Club, and a master craftsman, builder, and avid maple syrup producer.
Among his survivors are his wife, Sylvia J. Genter, Harrisville; a son and daughter in law, Brian G. and Lisa Genter, Naples, NY; a daughter and son in law, Kimberly A. and Wesley Fisher, Spring Hill, FL; three step sons and three daughters in law, Scott W. and Patty Hodge, Potsdam, Mark W. and Janelle Hodge, Adams, Todd H. and Jill Hodge, Ballston Spa, NY; a sister and a brother in law, Peggy E. and Martin Mancari, Adams Center; four grandchildren, six step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Allen Genter died before him.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5th at the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River with Rev. Evan Zehr, Pastor of Lewis County Hospice officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Black River American Legion. Following the funeral there will be a fellowship gathering at the Black River American Legion.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4th at the funeral home.
