Vikings' third-quarter surge yields win

TURIN — Bit Hall struck for 13 of her game-high 23 points in the third quarter as Thousand Islands pulled away from South Lewis for a 58-30 Frontier League "C" Division girls basketball win Monday.

Kristin McGraw contributed 12 points and six rebounds for Thousand Islands (15-1 overall, 4-1 league), and Amber Dibble grabbed nine rebounds.

Nancy Newell led the Falcons (3-13, 3-12) with 14 points.

COPENHAGEN 43, ALEXANDRIA 35

In a resumed "D" Division game, Morgan Kiernan tallied 22 points, 16 rebounds and four assists for the host Golden Knights.

The game originally took place on Jan. 13, but was postponed with 4:07 remaining in the first half because of an injury to an Alexandria player.

Danielle Eisel added 12 points and six rebounds for Copenhagen (11-5, 9-3), which has wrapped up the No. 2 seed for Friday's divisional semifinals.

Kelsy Heschke led the Purple Ghosts (4-11, 2-9) with 15 points.

HAMMOND 53,

HERMON-DEKALB 52 (2 OT)

Malynda Jenne's late-game plays helped Hammond rally in the second overtime period for a victory over Hermon-DeKalb in a Northern Athletic Conference West Division game in Hammond.

Jenne, who finished with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals, hit two free throws with 11 seconds left in the second overtime to seal the victory. Earlier in the period, she struck for two 3-pointers to rally the Red Devils (13-1 overall, 8-1 league) from a six-point deficit.

Alyssa Crosby added 12 points for Hammond.

Brianna Sayer led Hermon-DeKalb (9-6, 6-3) with 19 points and added seven rebounds and five steals. Kelly Williams scored 15 points and Rochelle Whitton 10.

HARRISVILLE 46, LISBON 45

Patty Coloney delivered 34 of Harrisville's 46 points and scored her 1,000th career point late in the fourth quarter to lead the Pirates in Lisbon.

Taylor Wood's basket with four seconds remaining clinched the game for Harrisville (10-1, 8-1). Lisbon had a chance to tie the game with a player on the free throw line with two seconds left but couldn't convert.

MORRISTOWN 42,

EDWARDS-KNOX 30

Claire Plummer generated 15 points to lead Morristown to the victory at Morristown. Amanda Bertrand added 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Green Rockets (6-8, 3-6).

Lindsey Crosbie scored 10 points for Edwards-Knox (2-11, 1-8).

HOCKEY

ALEXANDRIA 4, CANTON 2

Jason Heath scored a pair of goals to propel the Purple Ghosts to a Northern Athletic Conference victory in Alexandria Bay.

Josh Slocum supplied a goal and an assist, and Mckenzie Garlock added two assists for Alexandria (6-7, 3-6).

Canton (10-5-2, 5-2) received goals from Josh Mousaw and Rick Huber.

VOLLEYBALL

SANDY CREEK 3, SOUTH LEWIS 0

Stefani Senke had 10 kills, five blocks and three assists to lead the Comets to a 25-22, 25-23, 25-21 win in a Frontier League "C" Division match at Turin.

The Falcons dropped to 8-10, 6-9.

Sam Pfluger finished with six kills, 13 assists and four aces for Sandy Creek (5-10). Coach Dori Hathaway said Marie Mason made significant defensive contributions with 13 digs.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 3, PULASKI 1

Danielle Bartlett's 13 kills paced the Spartans to a 25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 25-16 nonleague win at Pulaski.

Lauren Gilligan provided 11 kills, Heather Gordinier recorded five aces and eight digs. and Nicole Lalone also added eight digs for South Jefferson (13-4).

Pulaski was led by Emily Catanzarite's 24 assists. Maggie Williams added eight kills and three blocks.
