POTSDAM — Funeral services for Mr. John C. "Johnny Walker" Schmidt, 57, will be held Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Rev. Lee Sweeney, pastor of the Knapps Station Community Church officiating. Burial in the spring will be in the Crary Mills Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

John died at his home in the Town of Potsdam on Feb. 1, 2010 after an illness with cancer.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry of Potsdam; a sister, Debbie Schmidt of Patterson, N.Y.; his father-in-law, Lester Snyder of Potsdam; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Brian (Diane) Bergbahd.

John was born in Yonkers, N.Y. on Feb. 10, 1952, the son of Leonard and Helen (Clossey) Schmidt. He married Sherry Snyder in Colton, N.Y. on June 17, 1995.

John was self-employed as a handyman and general trucker for many years until he became disabled. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, brisk walks, and visiting with family and friends.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Hannawa Falls Vol. Fire Dept. or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 6805 U.S. Highway 11, Potsdam, N.Y.
