Gayle K. Shippey

MASSENA — Funeral services for Gayle K. Shippey, 67, of 39 Dover St., Massena, will be Friday at noon at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.

Friends and family may be received on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.

Gayle passed away unexpectedly on Saturday (Jan. 30, 2010) in Hopewell, Va.

Gayle is survived by her husband, Richard J. Shippey; a cousin, Edna Gazda of Plantation, Fla.; second cousin, Kathleen Gazda of Plantation, Fla.

She was born June 8, 1942 in Catskills, N.Y., the daughter of Francis and Ruth (Nealis) Hilfrank. She graduated from Potsdam State College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.

She taught elementary education in Saratoga Springs and later in Walden. She briefly taught at Twin Rivers Elementary School in Massena.

She married Richard J. Shippey on Aug. 10, 1968 in Cairo.

She was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart Choir and formerly a canter and lector at Sacred Heart Church.
