BOONVILLE — Carl R. Szot, M.D., 77, Schuyler St. a well known physician in central and upstate New York, passed away at his residence on Monday, February 1, 2010, while under the loving care of his wife, Inez, and family.
Dr. Szot was born in Boonville, on December 5, 1932, a son of John C. and Victoria Daskiewich Szot. He graduated from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1950, then from LeMoyne College in 1954, with a Bachelor of Science Degree, before earning his Medical Doctor Degree, Cum Laude, from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
Dr. Szot married Margaret Weis, in Pittsburgh, PA., on April 23, 1960. Mrs. Szot died on February 25, 1998.
He served as Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 until 1962, as chief of Department of Medicine at Seymour Johnson AFB, at Goldsboro, NC.
In 1962, Dr. Szot entered into private practice in Boonville, retiring in 2003. During his medical career that spanned for over forty years, he was affiliated in practice in the emergency room at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica, and in general practice at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.
On March 4, 2000, Dr. Szot was married to Inez H. McIntyre.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Boonville, Boonville Council Knights of Columbus, Charles J. Love Post American Legion, and the Erwin Library Board. His professional memberships included: American Academy of Family Practice, Medical Society of State of N.Y., Central N.Y. Academy of Medicine, and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Szot had formerly served as: Oneida County Coroner, South Lewis School Physician, Health Officer for Towns of: Lewis, Leyden, Turin, West Turin, Lyonsdale, villages of: Port Leyden, Lyons Falls, and Turin.
Dr. Szot enjoyed the outdoors; he loved his fishing trips with his friends to northern Canada, hunting, gardening, and burning firewood. Carrying on the tradition set by his mother, Victoria, he was a very talented cook, a hobby that he greatly enjoyed.
He greatly loved his wife, Inez, and family; he is survived by four sons, Dr. Carl R. Szot (Ann), Keene, NH, John Szot (Katherine), Madison, WI, Dr. Joseph Szot (Julie), Tiffin, IA, Thomas Szot (Elaine), West Spring, IL, three daughters; Mary Macbeth, Boonville, Victoria Szot, Randolph, NJ, and Susan McAuley (James), Franklinville, NY, fourteen grandchildren, one sister, Felicia Szot, Boonville, three step sons; Mark McIntyre, Port Leyden, Todd McIntyre (Nadine), Eric McIntyre (Susan), all of Boonville, four step grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother, John C. Szot, died in 1990.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Charles St. Boonville, with Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. Visitation is Thursday 1-4 & 6-9 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Charles J.
