SUNY Potsdam's Poirier receives league honor

POTSDAM— SUNY Potsdam women's basketball player Cortney Poirier has been named SUNYAC Player of the Week.

Poirier, a Brushton-Moira native, averaged 25.7 points, nine rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals over a three-game stretch last week. She posted a double-double in back-to-back games, including a career-high 37 points in a 66-60 win over New Paltz on Friday night.

Poirier also passed the 1,500 point mark for her career and is the school's all-time leading scorer.

■ Potsdam senior goaltender Hilary Hitchman was named ECAC West Goaltender of the Week for her efforts in a pair of weekend wins over Chatham. Hitchman recorded her first shutout of the season and made 28 saves in a 3-0 victory Friday night and stopped 35 shots in a 3-1 win Sunday.
