arrested on assault count
Anthony J. Peterkin, 46, of 309 Moulton St., was back in jail Wednesday after being arrested by city police on a warrant charging him with second-degree assault, a felony.
He had been released without bail Jan. 19 by order of Jefferson County Judge Kim H. Martusewicz following an arrest three days earlier on a fugitive warrant and on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Judge Martusewicz is not recognizing the fugitive warrant from North Carolina, where Mr. Peterkin is accused of failing to update his address as a registered sex offender.
In the city police warrant, Mr. Peterkin is accused of punching Annamarie Wise, 32, of 119 S. Orchard St., several times and grabbing her throat Dec. 28, police said. He was taken into custody shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Mill Street.
Part-time Watertown City Judge Eugene R. Renzi ordered him held without bail in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.
Watertown woman cited
with shoplifting at Sears
Gabrelle J. Gehring, 19, of 201 Sterling St., was charged with petit larceny Tuesday night at Sears, Salmon Run Mall, according to state police.
She is accused of shoplifting items priced at a total of $46.29, police said. She also was cited with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

woman with fire poker
THERESA — Brandon J. Uscio, 22, of 210 Main St., was arrested by state police Tuesday evening on allegations that he threatened a woman with a fire poker.
He was released without bail following arraignment in town of Antwerp Court on second-degree counts of menacing and harassment.
Police said Precious Lajoie, 17, Houghton Road, Antwerp, made the allegation against Mr. Uscio late Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. Uscio was released from a state prison last March after serving more than two years for violating probation on a conviction of attempted third-degree burglary, according to the state Department of Correctional Services Web site.

story of killing girlfriend
POTSDAM — A student at LeMoyne College, Syracuse, is accused of falsely reporting the murder of his girlfriend at Clarkson University.
Matthew H. Mahaffy, 21, Pulaski, was charged Wednesday with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and second-degree aggravated harassment, village police said.
He allegedly called a Clarkson resident assistant the morning of Sept. 14, telling them he had just killed his girlfriend and dragged her body into the woods and needed help, police said. Officers searched the woods around the college for evidence without success.
Mr. Mahaffy turned himself in to police on Wednesday after a five-month investigation. He was arraigned in Village Court and released on his own recognizance, police said.
Woman said to threaten
a co-worker at Walmart
A woman who was employed at Walmart Super Center, outer Arsenal Street, is accused of threatening to paralyze one of her co-workers at the store, according to state police.
Jodi-Kaye Dawkins, 20, of 423 State St., Carthage, was charged Tuesday with harassment on a complaint filed Jan. 27 by Jessica Smith, Watertown, and is summoned to appear in town of Watertown Court.
Three charged after fight
at restaurant in Potsdam
POTSDAM — Three SUNY Potsdam students are accused of fighting Dec. 12 at La Casbah restaurant on Elm Street.
Thomas A. Farley, 21, Nich-olville, was charged Wednesday with third-degree assault, village police said. Kyle P. Green, 23, Bel Air, Md., and William J. Richards III, 21, Niskayuna, both were charged Tuesday with disorderly conduct.
All three were issued appearance tickets for Village Court.
