Heaven opened its doors today for a beautiful woman. Edith Ida Mason, 84, Centennial Apts., Watertown, passed away at her son's home in Sackets Harbor Tues. afternoon, Feb. 2, 2010.
She was born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada on July 21, 1925, the daughter of Louis and Laura Lavigne Lalonde. She graduated from Nativity High School, Cornwall.
In 1966 she married Edgar F. Mason in Watertown, and he died in 1998.
She worked for the NY Telephone Co. as a chief operator, in Cornwall, then in Potsdam. Mrs. Mason was a member of Faith Fellowship Church, Dexter. She was Captain of her floor at Centennial Apts., where she had resided for 11 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially boating with her son and his wife, motorcycling with her husband, eating out, and reading her bible.
Mrs. Mason is survived by her son and his wife, Richard M. and Christine Gallinger, Sackets Harbor; her grandson and his wife, Chad and Lisa Gallinger, NH; her 2 granddaughters and their husbands, Shelly and Randy Richardson, Watertown, and Kelly and Brian Merchant, Adams Center; her 6 great-grandchildren, Mason and Corey Gallinger, NH, and Tyler McAlister, Evan and Braeden Richardson, and Kayla Sherman, all of Watertown.
Besides her husband, Edgar, she was predeceased by 1 grandson, Sean Howard, 2006, 1 brother, Oscar J. Lalonde, 1991, and 1 sister, Rita Perrigo, 2008.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown, on Sat., Feb. 6, from 1 - 3 PM followed by the funeral service at 3 PM with Cheryl Gmitter officiating. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery will be at a time and date to be announced later this year.
