SUNY Canton trio receives league weekly honor

CANTON — Three SUNY Canton basketball players were recognized this week by the Sunshine Conference as sophomore guard Deric Alston of the men's team and junior forward Teresa Morley of the women's team were each named Player of the Week, while women's freshman guard Abbey Shoen was named Rookie of the Week.

Alston averaged 17 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting 53 percent from the floor in wins over the College of St. Joseph and the conference's top team Fisher College.

Morley scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and recorded three steals in a 69-49 win over the College of St. Joseph. She then pulled down nine rebounds and added four steals against Fisher College.

Shoen averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and four steals over the weekend.
