Marcia A. Egnew, born February 20, 1954, daughter of Edwin and Marjorie Egnew, died suddenly of a heart attack on October 20, 2009, in New York City, where she resided. She was 55 years old and in good health. Marcia graduated from Carthage Central School in 1972. She received a B. A. in psychology from Barnard College in 1977 and an M.A. from Hunter College School of Social Work in 1999. She graduated from the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in 2003.
She worked for the City of New York Administration for Children's Services since 1987 as a case manager, a child evaluation specialist, unit supervisor, and most recently as a parents' and children's rights advocate. In addition to her full time day job, she was a psychoanalyst in an evening clinic at the Metropolitan Institute for Mental Health. In this capacity she also led group sessions for those with eating disorders. Marcia enjoyed running in Central Park daily, fashion, traveling, jewelry and quilt making and crocheting and knitting unique shawls and scarves. She is survived by her mother Marjorie, who resides in Country Manor Rehabilitation Center, Carthage; and sisters Linda, Carthage; Susan Kubota and brother-in-law, Melvin, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
