Feb. 6, 2000:The seventh annual Fragile Wilderness Wildlife Expo, presented by the Thompson Park Conservancy, was held Saturday at Jefferson Community College, Watertown. The event has gotten larger every year, and Saturday was expected to attract 10,000 people and raise more than $40,000 for the conservancy.

25 years ago

Feb. 6, 1985:Construction of military family housing on outer Washington Street is not dead, according to Mayor T. Urling Walker, who said he expects the issue to come before the council again Feb. 25. The council rejected a zone change that would have permitted that construction, after hearing from 150 neighborhood residents opposed to the project.

50 years ago

Feb. 6, 1960:The start of the $16 million segments of the Empire Stateway north of Watertown, linking completed portions with the Thousand Islands Bridge, hinges on the settlement of the interstate highway fund controversy in Washington, D.C. But no matter what the lawmakers decide, construction of the 18 miles of four-lane expressway will not be started during 1960.

75 years ago

Feb. 6, 1935:Temperatures varied from 4 to 14 degrees below zero in various sections of the city, F.A. Helin, Times' weather observer, discovered when he made a survey of the readings in an early morning tour of the city. Mr. Helin attributed the variation to the different altitudes and humidity conditions.

100 years ago

Feb. 6, 1910:Architect D.D. Kieff has practically completed the plans for the building that the Shaunessey Knitting Co. will erect on Moulton Street, which the Watertown Light & Power Co. presented as one of the inducements to secure the removal of the industry from Amsterdam to this city.

125 years ago

Feb. 6, 1885:The Syracuse police force has asked for a patrol wagon. Watertown policemen are satisfied if they can find a wheelbarrow in which to carry the stationary drunks to the station house.
