MASSENA — Mr. Dean Nicol, 86, formerly of 40 Grant Street, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 4, 2010 at St. Petersburg General Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla. He had recently been a resident of Gulf Shore Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Pinellas Park, Fla. and had been in failing health for the past year.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are with Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
Mr. Nicol is survived by one daughter and one son, Nancy Handel, Massena, and Leslie and Stephanie Nicol, Rochester, N.Y. Also, surviving are four grandchildren, Alicia Handel, Massena, Chris and Craig Nicol, Rochester and Shawn Nicol, Massena.
He was predeceased by a son, Lloyd Nicol on June 25, 2006, and a brother, Morris Nicol in 1946.
He was born November 26, 1923 in Hammond, N.Y., son of Raymond and Vera Sharp Nicol. He attended Hammond Central School. He married Muriel L. Forbes in 1942 in Massena. She predeceased him on August 22. 1984.
He was employed at Alcoa as a machinist in the cable mill until his retirement. He belonged to the Alcoa 25-Year club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening and growing raspberries. He also enjoyed many winters in St. Petersburg, Florida.
