HAMMOND — A private memorial service for Dr. Amore Del Giudice, age 96 of the Black Lake Road Hammond, will be held for friends and neighbors at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (February 9th 2010) at the home of Glory Martel, 6344 State Hwy 37, "Cobble Hill Farm" Ogdensburg. Dr. Del Giudice died Friday (Feb. 5, 2010) at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

He is survived by his daughter Joan Bletsch, his grandson Nicholas Bletsch; his son Richard Del Giudice and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was predeceased by four sisters Noella Del Giudice, Josephine Demeritt, Lydia Adams and Era Campbell.

Dr. Del Giudice was born on October 31, 1913 in Waterbury, Vermont, the son of the late Alfonso & Sebastiana Del Giudice. He graduated from UVM Medical School in 1939, and completed his residency at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is a veteran of World War II (32nd Infantry Division), and serviced as captain of a field hospital. He was trained in tropical medicine at Walter Reed Hospital before being shipped to Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines.

Once out of the U.S. Army, Dr. Del Giudice worked as a psychiatrist at Binghamton State Hospital until 1961 when he became board certified. He went on to be Assistant Director, under Director Herman Snow, at the St. Lawrence State Hospital for the years 1961-1966. He then relocated to Middletown where he took the position of Director of the Middletown State Hospital until 1979 when he retired.

Dr. Del Giudice was an avid dancer and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
