Marist College pollsters prepared for the Super Bowl by asking people planning to watch the game what cliches from sportscasters bothered them the most.
One-third of respondents chose “It’s too bad somebody has to lose.” One in five selected “They’ll have to treat this like any other game,” closely followed by “That’s a costly turnover.” Other well-worn phrases: “It all depends on where they spot the ball” and “He’d like to have that one back.”
