For a newspaper which editorially opposed the conservative candidate in the recent Special Election, the Watertown Daily Times must be commended. Although the headline "Small donors aid Hoffman" on Feb. 2, was a tad off-base, I forgive the paper this minor transgression.
Doug Hoffman was, in many ways, the winner due to his $20-and-under supporters and the Tea Partiers. We did much more than "aid" the gentleman ... we were his fuel. We worked the offices, spread the yard signs, distributed the literature, made the phone calls, wrote the letters, openly debated the liberals ... and we sent small checks to Doug whenever we could. The Tea Party people were with him all the way, even though that has been overlooked by the news media.
Doug Hoffman better represents America than Scott Brown ever could, and history will record that soon enough. If history doesn't, we shall. Both men, however, damaged the reputation of ACORN, an aggressive arm of the Democratic Party.
We are proud to have played a major part in Hoffman's campaign. And we did it without hatred, without attacks on our opponents, without vitriol, and without any aid whatsoever from Mike Steele's Big Tent Republican monstrosity.
Yes we salute first, Doug Hoffman, and secondly, the Watertown Daily Times. We shall return.
