MOHEGAN LAKE, N.Y. (AP) — Officials say someone shot an arrow through the leg of a pet cat in the New York City suburbs.

They say that when a veterinarian removed the arrow, a pellet from an air gun was also found in the cat's leg.

Ken Ross, police chief for the Westchester County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said Tuesday that the cat, named Sammy, was shot with the arrow on Sunday. Sammy had spent about 12 hours outdoors before returning to his home in Mohegan Lake with the arrow in his leg.

Ross said the pellet was from an earlier shooting. It was also removed and Sammy was reported in good condition Tuesday.

The SPCA is inviting the public's help in finding the shooter or shooters.
