CRANBERRY LAKE — An Erie County man suffered several injuries in a snowmobile crash early Thursday morning in the town of Clifton.
St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies said Peter F. Reile, 53, of 6632 Hunters Creek Road, South Wales, was riding on a trail with friends shortly after midnight when he came to a sharp curve and couldn’t avoid hitting a tree. Mr. Reile, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off the snowmobile.
His friends brought him out of the woods to a waiting Cranberry Lake Rescue Squad ambulance. He was taken to Clifton-Fine Hospital, Star Lake, before being transferred to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, deputies said.
Undersheriff Scott F. Bonno said he was listed in fair condition at the hospital. He suffered a broken jaw and left foot, a skull fracture and a separated shoulder.
Mr. Reile was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated, deputies said.
