A Carthage man was arrested early Saturday on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, aggravated driving while intoxicated and numerous other charges after he allegedly drove 98 mph in a 30-mph zone on State Street in Watertown.
Sheridan M. Goutermout, 23, of 10684 Old State Road, Carthage, at about 1:15 a.m. drove at a reckless speed in the 1300 block of State Street with "pedestrians in front of a busy bar and vehicle traffic on that roadway," according to a Watertown police report.
Mr. Goutermout also allegedly passed a police car in a no-passing zone and drove past another patrol car that had pulled over a vehicle. He was arrested at 1:26 a.m. at 25545 Old State Road.
Mr. Goutermout allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.23 percent. State law says that a BAC of 0.08 percent or higher constitutes intoxication, while 0.18 percent is the state threshold for aggravated DWI.
Mr. Goutermout was arraigned before Watertown Town Justice James P. McClusky, sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and later released on $1,000 bail.
He additionally was charged with two counts apiece of speeding and reckless driving and single counts of third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, failure to comply, failure to keep right, unsafe passing and failure to obey a traffic control device.
