Since the NHL is not active this week, or last, due to Olympic competition I thought I'd use this space this week to go over Clarkson's Olympic history.

Prior to 1998 the Winter Olympic men's hockey teams, for the U.S. and Canada, consisted of amateur players, usually collegiate. Starting in 1992 some lower-level minor league players also competed in the games.

Most of Clarkson's Olympians have been amateurs, with the exception of Craig Conroy and Erik Cole in the 2006 games in Torino, Italy.

Clarkson's first Olympian was Tom Hurley, who played on the U.S. squad in 1968 in Grenoble, France.

Dave Tretowicz represented the Golden Knights on the U.S. team in 1992 in Meribel, France and Todd Marchant, now with the Anaheim Ducks, played for the U.S. at the 1994 games in Lillehammer, Norway.

Former Golden Knight Guillaume Besse represented France in the 2002 games in Salt Lake City, Utah and this year, in Vancouver, Clarkson has its first women's representative in Stefanie Wyss, who plays for Switzerland.
