March 6, 2000:The federal investigation into asbestos removal fraud was kicked off in a sting operation involving the old U.S. Post Office building on Arsenal Street, Watertown, a U.S. attorney said. The investigation led to the identification of 182 victims of illegal asbestos work, including the former Meade School, which became the Jefferson County Public Health Service building.

March 6, 1985:Watertown's Paddock Arcade and the Woolworth Building have been put up for sale by the trustees of the Henry Keep Home. The asking price for the two structures is reportedly in the range of $600,000 to $700,000.

March 6, 1960:The Theobald Dairy, a Potsdam industry for more than a half-century, is to be abolished by George Theobald, 72, Pierrepont Avenue, to make way for the expanding campus of Potsdam State University College. Mr. Theobald, who owns more than 100 registered Holstein cows, will sell the herd at public auction.

March 6, 1935:City Manager Paul B. Sutton may be asked by the council to bring the physical examination records of police officers and firemen up-to-date, it was announced by a member of the council who declined to permit his name to be used. He said, "Some of the men have never had physical examinations since the day they became members of either the police or fire departments."

March 6, 1910:Both the St. Lawrence and the Oswegatchie rivers are entirely clear of ice, a unique condition for so early in the season, particularly in view of the fact that the ice went out of its own accord. This was due to the high water and the strong current flowing through the mouth of the Oswegatchie.

March 6, 1885:A meeting was held in the YMCA parlors last night, by a number of young men interested in telegraphy. As association was organized to be known as the Watertown Local Telegraph Association.
