Social work practitioners will now be able to earn a bachelor's degree without leaving the Watertown area. Keuka College's Accelerated Studies for Adults Program (ASAP), in partnership with JCC, Jefferson County Community Services, and the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, will provide pathways for north country residents to support careers in human services.
The Keuka College B.S. in Social Work program is designed to meet the needs of working adults and features an accelerated format whereby students attend class one night a week at JCC, and complete their degree in just over two years Applicants must have prior experience in the human services field and possess an associate's degree or an equivalent number of transfer credits.
"This is an important collaboration between colleges to meet the academic and workforce development needs specific to this region," said Edward J. Knapp, vice president for academic affairs at Jefferson. "It is the first Jefferson agreement that brings a B.S. in social work within reach of the local community."
Approximately 100 people from the north country have inquired about the program since Keuka's first information session in September. Admissions Counselor Wendy Ferrucci explains, "Even though the program doesn't begin until fall 2010, it's important to start the application process now."
