March 8, 1960:A new industry, the manufacture of rubber covers for rolls used in the papermaking industry, will be established in Watertown by the Ames-American Co., North Easton, Mass. The plant, to be located in the former Massey Machine Co. building, 787-799 Pearl St., will have a peak employment of 45 men, expected to be reached within 18 months, with an annual payroll of at least $200,000.

March 8, 1910:Watertown's proposed city market was considered last night when the committees of the common council met with the committee of the chamber of commerce to talk over location. It was decided to place advertisements, calling for offers from owners of property that is deemed well located for a public market.

March 8, 1885:Brig. Gen. Sackett, senior inspector general of the U.S. Army, died Sunday. The news became public to Watertown this morning and caused a general feeling of regret. Gen. Sackett was a native of Cape Vincent and was the son of the late Dr. G.S. Sackett, of that village.
