Odyssey of Mind teams to see state finals

The annual Odyssey of the Mind Region 9 competition was held Saturday at Watertown High School. Nearly 500 students on 70 teams from area schools participated in the international problem-solving competition.

The teams that received first place awards in the regional competition will move on to the state finals March 27 at Binghamton University, where they will have a chance to earn a place at the world finals in May at Michigan State University, East Lansing.

The problem categories and the respective winners from the Region 9 competition are:

■ Nature Trail'R, Division I: Beaver River Central School, Beaver Falls; Division II: Beaver River Central School.

■ Return to the Gift of Flight, Division I: Lowville Central School Team A; Division II: Gen. Bruce C. Clarke Junior-Senior High School, Adams.

■ Discovered Treasures, Division I: Beaver River Central School; Division II: Lowville Central School Team A; Division III: Alexandria Central School, Alexandria Bay.

■ Column Structure, Division I: Wilson Elementary School, Adams Center; Division II: Alexandria Central School; Division III: Alexandria Central School.

■ Food Court, Division I: Lowville Central School Team A; Division II: Lowville Central School Team B; Division III: Lowville Central School Team A.

Lowville Central School Team A, Dexter Elementary School and Sackets Harbor Central School also were given the Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award for exceptional creativity in a problem-solving process or solution.
