Police accuse several people of driving while intoxicated

A Hammond man faces three charges, including driving while intoxicated, in connection with a domestic dispute, according to state police.

John Wayne Johnston, 38, of 101 Oak Point Road, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and DWI at 9:39 p.m. Saturday at 303 Washington St., Morristown.

During an argument Saturday night with a girlfriend, whom police did not name, Mr. Johnston allegedly prevented her from using a telephone or leaving the residence. When she left the house, Mr. Johnston followed her to the home in Morristown where he was arrested, troopers said.

His blood alcohol content was listed as 0.11 percent. State law establishes 0.08 percent BAC as the threshold for intoxication.

He was arraigned in Hammond Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $2,000 bail or $5,000 bond.

Also charged with DWI and related offenses:

■ Jacob R. Andrews, 21, Fort Drum, also was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, driving without a registration, inspection or insurance, driving too slowly, driving across hazard markings and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle at 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Route 3 in the town of Hounsfield.

Mr. Andrews allegedly refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test. He was found in possession of five syringes and other drug paraphernalia, deputies said. He was arraigned before Hounsfield Town Justice Sherry L. Derouin and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $500 bail.

■ Patrick M. Tyo, 55, of 18 Pleasant St., Massena, was charged by Massena police with aggravated DWI and speed not reasonable or prudent after he drove into a parked car at 9:12 p.m. Saturday on Water Street in Massena. His BAC was 0.22 percent, police said. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

■ Ricky J. Frederick, 54, of 12 Lawrence St., Massena, was charged by St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies at 9:30 p.m. Sunday along Route 11 in the town of Potsdam. According to deputies, he was ticketed after driving into a pond when trying to turn around. He failed field sobriety tests, but refused a Breathalyzer test, deputies said.

■ Christopher S. Taulbee, 26, of 26403 Lynn Circle, Calcium, was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies with aggravated DWI, driving across hazard markings and having inadequate plate lamps at 1:04 a.m. Saturday on Route 12F in the town of Hounsfield. His BAC was listed as 0.21 percent.

■ Raymond S. Avery, 42, of 17481 Route 11, Lot 13I, also was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies with failure to keep right, driving across hazard markings and unlawful possession of marijuana at 10:38 p.m. Saturday on County Route 62 in the town of Hounsfield. He allegedly had a BAC of 0.14 percent.

■ Thron J. Alexander, 21, New York City, also was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies with driving without a license at 2:59 a.m. Sunday on Route 126 in the town of Rutland. He tested at 0.15 percent BAC, according to the sheriff's office.

■ James E. Perry, 29, Savannah, Ga., also was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies with failure to signal a turn and stopping in the roadway at 1:56 a.m. Sunday on Church Street in Carthage. He allegedly had a BAC of 0.11 percent.

■ Ernest M. Sipka, 26, Virginia Beach, Va., also was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies with speeding and driving across hazard markings at 10:58 p.m. Friday on Route 3 in the town of LeRay. He allegedly had a BAC of 0.16 percent.

■ Michael J. Cutway, 36, Gouverneur, was charged by state police at 11:46 p.m. Saturday on Williams Street in Gouverneur. Police said his BAC was 0.08 percent. He also was charged with having a damaged exhaust system.

■ Renea L. Mallette, 42, of 16 French Road, Bangor, also was charged by state police with failure to keep right and driving without a license at 1 a.m. Saturday on Dyke Road in the town of Bangor. Her BAC was 0.14 percent, police said.

■ Shawn W. Lyndaker, 28, Sackets Harbor, also was charged by state police with moving from a lane unsafely at 2:28 a.m. Sunday on Route 3 in the town of Hounsfield. He allegedly had a BAC of 0.09 percent.

■ Charles H. Bartlett, 61, Cicero, was charged by state police with felony aggravated DWI and failure to keep right at 8:09 p.m. Saturday on Route 3 in the town of Sandy Creek. He allegedly had a BAC of 0.22 percent. The charge was a felony owing to a prior DWI conviction, police said.

■ Ryan R. Hess, 21, of 703 Route 11B, Potsdam, was charged by state police at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection checkpoint on Route 11B in the town of Stockholm. He also was charged with unlicensed operation. Troopers said his BAC was 0.11 percent.

■ John R. Lemons, 25, Berlin, Rensselaer County, was arrested by state police after his northbound vehicle went off Interstate 81 in the town of Orleans about 2:15 a.m. Monday and struck a tree. Troopers listed his BAC as 0.14 percent.

■ Linda D. Seeley, 52, Ogdensburg, was charged by state police at 11:57 p.m. Saturday on Route 37 in Waddington after being pulled over by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents. Her BAC was 0.08 percent, police said.
