BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) — A 19-year-old man is hospitalized after authorities say he led police on a chase that ended when his pickup truck slammed into a western New York house, narrowly missing a woman standing outside.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says Louis Reeb of Corfu refused to pull over when deputies tried to stop him for speeding Monday afternoon on Route 33 in Pembroke, 20 miles east of Buffalo.

The chase ended in the neighboring town of Batavia after spike strips laid down by police caused Reeb's truck to veer off the road and into a home. Luz Castro says she was outside waiting for her daughter to return from school when the truck almost hit her before crashing into the house.

Reeb was listed in guarded condition at a Rochester hospital.

Authorities say charges are pending.
