SANDY CREEK — The town roads are closed to commercial vehicles carrying 5 tons or more per axle until April 30.
Highway superintendent, Michael C. Kastler said this is something that's done each spring in order to prevent the roads from further damage. Passenger car travel will not be interrupted.
"If mother nature cooperates for the next 30 days or so," Mr. Kastler said, regular traffic flow will resume by the end of April.
"As the frost creeps up from the cracks it created during the winter, it makes the blacktop spongy," he said. "When heavy vehicles drive over, they can tear through the blacktop and break up more of the road."
