ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Police say 20 students have been charged after a fight broke out at a Rochester high school that had been evacuated when a fire alarm went off.

Rochester police say two of the students assaulted a school resource officer who tried to break up Thursday's brawl outside Charlotte (shahr-LAHT') High School. Police say one of the students punched the officer in the back of the head and the other hit him with a trash can. The officer wasn't seriously injured.

The fight brought dozens of police officers to the school, located on Rochester's north side.

Police say 11 of the students have been charged as adults because they're over 16. The rest are charged as juveniles. The charges include inciting a riot and disorderly conduct.

Police planned to have extra officers at the school Friday.
