PHILADELPHIA — The Indian River Central School District has received a $42,500 grant from the state Energy Research and Development Authority to conduct a wind assessment study.

The grant covers 50 percent of the study, which will involve putting a meteorologic tower on one of the school campuses to measure wind conditions and help district officials determine whether putting a wind turbine on district property will be feasible and if it will help cut down on district energy costs.

The study will take nine months to a year to complete. The site for the tower has not been determined, but it likely would be on the middle school or high school campus, Business Manager James R. Koch said.
