Mary E. Kraeger

CASTORLAND — Mary E. Kraeger, 83, of Route 410, Castorland, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at her home under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

A "Celebration of Life" Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with Rev. Evan Zehr, Hospice Chaplain, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.

Mary was born on March 12, 1927 in Lowville, NY, daughter of Elyda and Mamie Gowing Clemons and attended Turin Union School. She married Kenneth C. Kraeger on April 14, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Constableville. She worked for the Dadville Tree Nursery and together with her husband, the couple worked on area dairy farms. Mr. Kraeger died on January 27, 1978. She worked for Kraft Foods for more than 25 years, retiring in the early 1980's. She enjoyed puzzles, gardening, wood crafts and scratch off lottery tickets.

She is survived by three children, Rose M. Locke of Lowville, Darleen A. Kraeger of Croghan, Donald J. and Amy Kraeger of Lowville, three grandchildren and a great-grandson; her longtime companion, Kenneth R. Keefer of Castorland, her companions children, Dan Keefer of Lowville, Bob and May Ann Keefer of Sackets Harbor, Randy Keefer of Carthage, Diane and Allen Toepfer of Pensacola, FL, Penny and Matt Cadwell of Constantia, Ken and Suzanne Keefer of Johnson, VT, Lisa and Peter Leubner of Dexter, their children and grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by three sisters, Leona "Toots" Taylor, Alice Beyer VanCour and Justine "Jolly" Austin.
