GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The St. Lawrence University indoor track and field team added two more individual national champions on Saturday, giving the Saints three titlists for the weekend.

Tupper Lake's Wendy Pavlus, who won the national title in the fall in cross country, added a national championship in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday. SLU's Alyssa Pirinelli won the national title in the shot put. On Friday, Watertown native Eric Jones won a national title for SLU in the weight throw.

Pavlus, a junior, became the first woman to win two national titles in the same school year for SLU, finishing the race in a school record 16 minutes, 59.40 seconds.

"The pace went well," said Pavlus. "It wasn't too fast or too slow for how I run. I waited and stayed with the top few girls to see what I could do. In the last 400, I put it all out there."

Pirinelli, a senior, won her national title with a throw of 48 feet.

"This is my senior year and my goal was aiming for a national title indoors," Pirinelli said.
