LYONS FALLS — Elizabeth L. Kerr, 86, of Fish Creek Road, died peacefully on Saturday evening, March 13, 2010 at her home under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Lowville Baptist Church with Rev. Everett F. Reed, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Old Glendale Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Randolph E. "Randy" Kerr Sr., five children, Lynne E. Kerr and her husband, J.D. Small of Lansing, MI, Gaile E. Kerr Sharpe of Rensselaer, NY, Randy Kerr Jr. and his wife, Cindy Kerr of Greenwich, NY, Kevin Kerr and his wife, Susan Kerr of Clifton Park, NY, Michael Kerr and his wife, Lisa Kerr of Whitinsville, MA, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Post of Black River, NY, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a brother, Robert Lauber Jr.
Mrs. Kerr was born on November 30, 1923 in Cuyler, New York, a daughter of the late Robert and Helen Carter Lauber and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1941. During WWII, Elizabeth was an aircraft spotter in Lowville and worked at Meda's Corner Pharmacy. She also worked for McOmber Electric and Carl's Auto Supply for a time. On December 14, 1945, she married Randolph E. Kerr at Lowville Baptist Church with Rev. William Sawin, Pastor, officiating. She raised her family and was a homemaker. While her children were young, she served as President of the PTA at General Martin School, Glenfield.
She was a member of Lowville Baptist Chuch, where she served as past president of the church youth group. She also taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Her ancestors were charter members of Lowville Baptist Church. One of whom was the first Principal of Lowville Free Academy.
Mrs. Kerr served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Old Tyme Fiddlers' Association in Osceola, NY. She also served on the Board of Election for the Town of Greig.
She enjoyed flower gardening, painting, quilting, and spending time with her family.
