ADAMS — Charles R. Sweetland, 73, of 7 Institute Street, died Sunday morning at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Wednesday at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Adams, with Rev. Charles Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Adams. The family will receive guests in a celebration of his life following the burial, at the Adams Fire Department. There are no calling hours.

Born July 4, 1937 in Binghamton, son of Raymond and Lena Brown Sweetland, he graduated from Adams High School in 1956. Following school, he worked at Loveland and Lines Gas Station in Adams. He entered the US Army October 1960 where he served in Munich, Germany.
After his discharge in October 1966, he worked for Lane Construction on Route 81, then General Brown Central School as a mechanic. He later worked as a mechanic for the NYSDOT in Lowville, retiring in 1991.
He married Patricia Cushing of Adams on August 13, 1960 at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Adams, with Rev. Bruce Whitehead officiating. The couple have lived in Adams all their married life.
Surviving besides his wife Pat, are two sons, Shane and fiancé Candy Lawrence, Watertown; William and Michele, Adams; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Donovin, MiaJoy, Charles James Sweetland, and Richele and Nicole Corsi, and one niece Susan and Rod Kanaley Frye, Wyndham, Maine.
He was a member of the Adams Emmanuel Episcopal Church and past chief of the Adams Fire Dept.
