MOIRA — George J. St. Hilaire Sr., age 85, of Moira, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, where he had been a patient.
Born September 27, 1924, in Moira, he was the son of the late Eli and Caroline McGee St. Hilaire.
He attended Moira High School.
In 1952, he started working for ALCOA operations in Massena, while also owning and operating a dairy farm in North Bangor. He retired in 1982. He enjoyed playing bingo, hunting, and tractor pulling. He was a member of the ALCOA Twenty Five Year Club and several farm organizations.
On August 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Currier. She predeceased him on April 2, 1997.
On June 17, 2000, he was united in marriage to Agnes Russell Griffin in Bombay by the Rev. Tom Davis. She survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Bush of North Bangor, and Cindy and Phil Clark of North Bangor; six sons and five daughters-in-law, George and Sharon St. Hilaire Jr. of North Bangor, Thomas and Brenda St. Hilaire of Moira, Richard and Cathy St. Hilaire of Moira, Marty and Faith St. Hilaire of East Dickinson, Michael St. Hilaire of North Bangor, and Ron and Mary St. Hilaire of North Bangor; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Emma McLaughlin of Brasher Falls; a sister-in-law, Arlene Currier of Massena; two brothers-in-law, Paul Tooley of Syracuse, and Norman Vaughn of Moira; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by a great-grandson, Matthew McIntosh; a daughter, Caroline St. Hilaire in infancy; a son-in-law, Michael Bush; five brothers, Alfred, Edmond, Eli, Arthur and Leo St. Hilaire; four sisters, Eugenie Empey, Helen Tooley, Marion and Jean. St. Hilaire in infancy; and his step-father, Eusebius St. Hilaire.
Friends may call at the Flint Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, March 17 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18 at 10 a.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Malone, with the Rev. Billy Bond and the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Burial will be in Moira Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bangor Fire Department Building Fund or the Moira Rescue Squad. CVPH is having a blood drive at the Brushton Moira American Legion on March 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., if one would like to donate blood in his memory.
