Donations are still coming in for small business owner and cancer patient Charles G. Wert even though no additional benefit events are on the horizon.

"We have a lot of friends in the barbershop circle," said Charles's wife, Mary Ann Wert. "Every day, we get some more donations."

Mrs. Wert is a member of the quartet For Heaven's Sake. Mr. Wert has also been involved in barbershop singing, including with the quartet Cornerstone.

The Werts are owners of the Wing Wagon on Public Square and face cost issues related to health insurance.

A benefit was held for Mr. Wert last month, a few days after he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Katie Taylor, a daughter of the couple, said associates at the business have been pitching in their time and knowledge to keep the business going while the Werts are away at hospitals.

"They're been very supportive," Mrs. Taylor said. "That's the way it is with a small business. It's like a family."

Mr. Wert was scheduled to be at a Boston hospital today for more tests.

"He has lung cancer," Mrs. Wert said. "But he has no tumors. But he has them in his lymph nodes."

Anyone interested in donating to the Werts can send donations to the couple at 223 S. Meadow St., Watertown, NY 13601.
