Dairy farmers to receive electricity discount checks

Dairy farmers in Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Franklin counties will soon receive discount checks through the New York Power Authority's dairy farm electricity discount program, with the exception of those due refunds of $600 or more.

The program gives 10 percent discounts to area dairy farms and small business owners that pay commercial electric bill rates.

"We are in contact with officials from the New York Power Authority and they are working diligently to get payments out," Jefferson County Agricultural Coordinator Jay M. Matteson said in a Wednesday press release.
