LOWVILLE — Village police on Thursday arrested Joshua J. Sweeney, 25, of 5656 Maple Ave., in connection with a 2005 money-bag robbery outside the Jreck Subs shop on South State Street.
Mr. Sweeney was charged with third-degree robbery, arraigned in Village Court and released on his own recognizance pending further court action.
On the night of Aug. 24, 2005, he allegedly made off with a money bag containing about $1,000 from Jreck Subs.
Police at the time said that a female employee of Jreck's was walking in a crosswalk near the sub shop when a man wearing dark clothing and a mask forcibly took the bag away from her.
Investigator Devere D. Rumble of the Lewis County Sheriff's Department assisted village police with the ongoing robbery investigation.
Mr. Sweeney in December 2008 was sentenced in Lewis County Court to one year in county jail on charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief and first-degree attempted promoting prison contraband. He was charged with damaging a generator owned by Loren Roes on March 10, 2008, in the town of Lowville and with receiving two plastic bags containing marijuana and 12 diazepam pills from his mother, Denise R. Sweeney, 45, while he was an inmate at Lewis County jail on June 28, 2008.
