Seven people arrested

after probe of altercation

CRANBERRY LAKE — Seven people, including four students from the Ranger School in Wanakena, face charges stemming from a large Valentine's Day fight at Cranberry Lake Lodge.

St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said they responded about 2:25 a.m. Feb. 14 to the lodge on a report of a large fight with serious injuries.

Ranger School students Jeffrey D. Chase, 32, Fort Ann, John T. Carelli, 25, Stoneridge, Bradford E. Setter, 28, Clay, and William C. Brown, 26, Wyoming, Mich., all were charged with third-degree assault, sixth-degree conspiracy and disorderly conduct, deputies said. All four were issued appearance tickets for Clifton Town Court.

Michael F. Jay Jr., 25, of 38 S. Main St., Norfolk, was charged with second-degree assault, deputies said. He was arraigned in Canton Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

Casey P. Plumadore, 23, of 226 Lake Shore Drive, Norwood, was charged with disorderly conduct and Kimberly A. Brown, 25, Parishville, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, deputies said. Ms. Brown reportedly yanked the telephone from Kristie Jay while she was attempting to call emergency dispatchers.

Mr. Setter was taken to Clifton-Fine Hospital, Star Lake, for treatment of a cut to his head, while Mr. Jay was treated for a broken nose. Both were later released.

Potsdam husband, wife

cited with welfare fraud

CANTON — A Potsdam couple is accused of receiving $104,356 in day-care funds from the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services to which they were not entitled.

Scott Turner, 38, and his wife, Sonya, 28, both of 375 Heath Road, each were charged Thursday with second-degree welfare fraud and three counts of lying on the application to receive the benefits, St. Lawrence County district attorney's investigators said. The couple allegedly received the payments from 2006 to 2009.

Both were arraigned in Town Court before Judge William J. Galvin and released under probation supervision.

Massena resident accused

of break-in, death threats

MASSENA — A 22-year-old Massena man was jailed on $50,000 bail after being charged with entering the home of his estranged wife Feb. 25.

Gerald J. Castle Jr., of 43 Talcott St., is charged with felony second-degree burglary and third-degree attempted assault, state police said.

Amanda M. Castle said in a statement to police that she was awakened when Mr. Castle entered her home and started shouting that he was going to kill her, her daughter and the father of her daughter.

She told troopers she had previously been issued an order of protection, which had since expired.

Man accused of sending

porn to girl's cell phone

A Fulton man was arrested Wednesday by Watertown police on allegations that he sent a pornographic photograph by cell phone text message to a 16-year-old city girl.

Ryan J. Elliott, 21, is charged with disseminating indecent material to a minor, a felony. Watertown part-time City Judge Eugene R. Renzi set bail at $750, placing him the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.

The picture, depicting a man and woman, both nude and in sexual contact, was sent to the girl the night of Feb. 23, police said. She knew the sender, and she filed the complaint for an arrest, police said.

Antwerp man again cited

with using false identity

A man assumed a false identity Tuesday for the second time in a month as he attempted to avoid being charged with driving with a suspended license, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Jeremiah C. Wagner, 30, of 112 Barker Road, Antwerp, was charged with second-degree criminal impersonation on Route 3 in the town of Watertown. Deputies said he identified himself as Allan M. Mallette, 29.

State police charged him with criminal impersonation and aggravated unlicensed operation Feb. 19 in the town of Antwerp.

Police say teenager had

47 grams of marijuana

Watertown police alleged finding 47 grams of marijuana in a teenager's bedroom early Thursday.

Dustin J. Crossno, 17, of 303 Keyes Ave., Apt. 2, was charged at 4 a.m. with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

Police declined to say what brought officers to his apartment, but said the investigation is continuing.

State police charged him in September with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for allegedly giving Xanax to a 16-year-old girl.

Police: Dexter motorist

had untaxed cigarettes

MASSENA — A Dexter man is accused of having 112 cartons of untaxed cigarettes when he was stopped Thursday on Route 37.

Jerry A. Segouin, 35, was charged with felony possession of untaxed cigarettes, state police said.

Troopers said he allegedly picked up the cigarettes on the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation. State law allows a person to have up to two cartons of cigarettes.

Mr. Segouin was issued an appearance ticket for Louisville Town Court.

Police say Carthage man

refused to leave market

A Carthage man was jailed under $1,000 bail after being arrested Wednesday by Watertown police on a trespassing charge.

Joshua D. Winkempleck, 24, of 504 Adelaide St., was arraigned before Watertown City Judge James C. Harberson on allegations that he ignored repeated instructions to leave Fastrac, 1709 State St., police said.

He remained a prisoner Thursday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.

Man accused of selling

marijuana in January

Andrew J. Delong, 20, of 227 Sterling St., is summoned to appear in City Court for arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree criminal sale of marijuana.

He is accused of selling a plastic bag of marijuana to a person on the afternoon of Jan. 19 at 127 N. Meadow St., according to a police document. No other details were provided by police.

Police charge city man

with damaging laptop

A Watertown man was accused Wednesday morning of damaging a $1,100 laptop computer, according to city police.

Eloy L. Sauceda, 23, of 309 State St., Apt. 3-G, is charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, on a complaint filed by Yolanda A. Sauceda, same address, police said. He awaits grand jury action.

Teen accused of hitting

woman, having fake ID

POTSDAM — Daniel J. Palmieri, 18, Miller Place, was charged Wednesday with second-degree harassment and unauthorized use of a driver's license for allegedly hitting a woman on the head and having a fake driver's license, village police said.

He was issued appearance tickets for Village Court.
