Man faces several charges
after short police chase
RUSSELL — The father of a man who was killed in a shootout with state police in 2007 is accused of leading police Thursday on a short chase.
Martin M. Trim, 48, North Lawrence, was charged with felony driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless driving, fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, trespassing and unlawful possession of marijuana, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies said they were attempting to question Mr. Trim about a trespassing complaint when he ignored them and sped away on Belleville Road. He stopped his car on Hatch Road.
While they were attempting to handcuff him, Mr. Trim resisted, deputies said. He was arraigned in Canton Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $2,500 bail.
In December 2007, Mr. Trim was sentenced to three years' probation for second-degree reckless endangerment for allegedly attempting to run down police officers.
His son, Travis, was killed in a shootout in state police in April 2007 in Delaware County.
Walmart employee cited
with stealing 2 batteries
MASSENA — A Walmart employee was charged Thursday with stealing two car batteries from the retailer.
Larry L. Thomas, 31, of 2196 Route 420, was charged with two counts of petit larceny. Village police said he took the batteries, worth $155, after checking them out for customers bringing in spent batteries.
He was charged about 4 p.m. and is to face the charges in Village Court.
