The resident of the apartment, Dustin J. Crossno, 17, was charged Thursday morning with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, and two other people, Lance P. Moreau, 19, same address, and Benjamin S. Derrigo, 18, Theresa, were cited with unlawful possession of marijuana.
Boy, 5, starts car rolling
then is run over by it
A 5-year-old boy fell out of a car that he accidentally set in motion Thursday afternoon, then was run over by one of the vehicle's tires, according to Watertown police.
Dakota A. Ames, 5, of 334 High St., son of Eric J. Ames and Jennifer S. Typhair, was treated at Samaritan Medical Center and was discharged, according to the hospital. Police said the tire passed over his right leg.
The incident occurred about 1:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Burchard Street. Police said the boy found the keys to a 2006 Dodge owned by Nicole L. Newton, 37, Route 283, then got into the car, inserted the key into the ignition switch and turned it. He also dropped the transmission lever out of park and into reverse, police said.
The vehicle, parked on a grade, began rolling backward, and the boy attempted to get out. In doing so, he fell to the road, where his leg was run over.
Norman E. Pierce, 611 Burchard St., said he was across the street and witnessed the accident.
"I tried to get over there to stop it from rolling, but it happened so fast," Mr. Pierce said Friday.
As a vehicle was approaching, Mr. Pierce said, he stayed by the Dodge and the child and shouted until the boy's parents came out of their home, he said.
