PILLAR POINT — Melody A. Monroe, 60, of Pillar Point, wife of David A. Monroe, passed away Friday morning at the Samaritan Medical Center.
The funeral will be Monday 10 a.m. at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Murray, pastor of Holy Family Church officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 6 pm - 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Pillar Point Volunteer Fire Department or to Hospice of Jefferson County.
Melody was born in Watertown, February 11, 1950, a daughter of William and Mildred Sweet. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1968. She worked for WPBS Public Television from 1972 - 1982. Melody went to work for WWNY TV in 1983 with the Production Department, retiring as a supervisor of that department in 2002 due to ill health.
She was married to David A. Monroe in 1973.
Melody was a member and an EMT with the Pillar Point Fire Department. She and David enjoyed taking cruise's to the Caribbean and gardening.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Richard and Michele Cean, Mexico; William and Kelly Monroe, Pillar Point. Four grandchildren. One brother, Joseph Sweet, Tupper Lake. A sister Catherine Sweet, Watertown. Nieces and nephews. A brother William Sweet predeceased her.
