Pair charged with burglary

Two men were arrested at Fort Drum after Watertown police allege they invaded an apartment early Friday morning on Sterling Street, assaulted the resident and stole property.

Charged Friday with first-degree burglary are Troy D. James Jr., 21, Fort Drum, and Andre J. Cuevas, 18, of 27436 Route 3, Apt. A. They await grand jury action after being sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building. Bail was set at $20,000 for Mr. James by Watertown City Judge James C. Harberson, and at $10,000 for Mr. Cuevas by town of Watertown Justice James P. McClusky.

The victim, Joshua Jackson, 22, of 168 Sterling St., suffered minor head and face injuries, police said.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, police said, Mr. Jackson responded to a knock at his door. When he opened the door, two men entered the apartment and assaulted him. The intruders then grabbed some property and fled, police said. Mr. Jackson called police at 12:58 a.m.

Police declined to disclose what was stolen, saying the investigation is continuing. A detective also declined comment about whether Mr. Jackson knew his assailants.

Mr. Cuevas, a civilian, was taken into custody at Fort Drum early Friday, and Mr. James, a soldier, was arrested late in the morning, police said.
