Charlotte M. Herne

AKWESASNE — Mrs. Charlotte M. Herne, "Katsitsianorohs," 83, of 378 State Highway 37, passed away early Saturday morning, March 20, 2010, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, where she had been a patient since March 2nd.

Charlotte was born July 16, 1926 on St. Regis Island, Quebec, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Lazore Jacobs. She attended schools in St. Regis.

Mrs. Herne worked at Cambridge Filter in Liverpool until her retirement after over 30 years of service. She returned to the area in 2000. She is a Wolf Clan and a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church, as well as member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens. She greatly enjoyed visiting with her friends, especially while sitting on her front porch and loved being around her family.

Charlotte is survived by her 4 daughters, Gail McAllen of Florida; Deborah Grant of Fort Covington; Catherine Herne of Massena; Lori Gomes and her husband, Albert, of Red Creek; 13 grandchildren, Sandy, Randy, Jennifer and Jeffery McAllen, Robbie Grant, Michele' Barnes, Karyn Mulverhill, Joseph Weir and his wife, Mary, Chris LaFrance and her husband, Jay, Calvin Forkhammer, Rachel, Alexis, and Brandon Gomes; and several great grandchildren; a chosen brother, Benny Jacobs, Akwesasne; many nieces and nephews including, Veronica Adams of Snye; and Mary Durfy of Cicero; and a very dear friend, Elaine Cook of Akwesasne.

She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Richard Lambertson and her sister, Margaret King on August 17, 1978.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Wednesday 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. George H. Belgarde, SJ, celebrating, followed by cremation.
